I read about this on the most interesting DC, Platonic, CraigsList posting I've seen this week:
DC's Neutrino Video Project
Looks like it could be an interesting show. The CraigsList Poster sounds interesting too, but I'm looking for an exercise partner. Not an arts buddy.

Bloggers at the Political Conventions
Interesting buzz today about bloggers as "journalists," especially in light of their getting press credentials for the Democratic National Convention which starts tomorrow in Boston, MA -- it's a first. A lot of the citations I make below have good stuff on the weblog phenomenon in general.
"Journalists think good information leads to opinion and argument. It's a logical sequence. Bloggers think that good argument and strong opinion cause people to seek information, an equally logical sequence" Jay Rosen, PressThink
Rosen writes about bloggers bringing back what journalists have taken out of reporting on politics. I only wish he were refering to good old fashion dissent. Even so, perhaps that will be the case in some instances. It would be really nice if any of the bloggers at the convention are not all that impressed with the Democratic Party and speak up about it. I'm so tired of all the bland rhetoric from many liberals / progressives who will support Kerry simply in the hopes of getting Bush and Cheney out of office. I want those dorks out of there too, but I'm not impressed with Kerry and Edwards so far either. I'm not looking to spoil an election here, but at some point something on the left side of our failing two party system has got to give!
WNYC's On the Media today also had a good story about the bloggers getting invited to the convention and, evidently, the dissent here is among some conventional / commercial journalists. Go figure!
I also found a good article about the possibility that blogging will be or has been subjugated by the two parties. That author thinks this will backfire on the parties. This article also shows how late I am with this story. It was published in early July on CNET's News.Com.
Here are some blogs that got credentials:
CyberJournalist.net has a whole growing list of confirmed, credentialed blogs, plus the following lists:

Another short article at CyberJournalist gives details on how the Democratic News Service will provide bloggers with resources and politicians during the convention. . .makes me wonder if they won't also be sure to keep down any signs of originality or dissent.
...Filth: My "Friend's" reply to my reply
I'm not sure I made the right decision to reply to my "friend" about this. . .or at least what I said in my reply. I will provide her subsequent response below.

I did not mean to offend you with the email that I passed along. But for the record I will continue to pass it along. I am not spreading hate by sending this. You should know that I of all people have embraced people frrom every culture. But this country has gotten so liberal lately and I for one am damn tired of it. That's the difference between you and me. We are on two opposite sides of the fence. I'm tired of people trying to tell me that I can not use the word God in public. And how dare you question my Christianity when you seem to have stepped away from yours years ago. And do you know what it is like to wait on the same people for years and they still have trouble speaking English. No offense, but if I went to another country for a long period of time, I would be FORCED to learn the language. This email was not directed at Helen's family in any way. Do they know how to speak English?
And as for your patriotism, you live in the most patriotic city in the country but when I stayed with you, I felt like you did not appreciate it. Maybe because your political views are so different than mine.
Don't make threats to me David, You will be "forced to cut me off" from ever emailing you again. Threats just piss me off. And you THINK I was attacking Helen and your loved ones, but I KNOW you were attacking mine because you called them hatemongers. My mom was on that list. If I told her you said that about her, it would break her heart. Think about that awhile. There were many other people on that list that I consider my friends, so don't you dare call them names. And don't tell me how to use the fucking computer. If I wanted to use the BCC and CC fields I would have.
So, am I pissed? Fuck yeah I'm pissed. That email was sent out to the general public and was not an attack on any one individual (contrary to what you believe). But this email you sent was a personal attack on me and I do not appreciate it. So now I am returning the favor.

Update on Spreading Disgusting Filth
Here's what I'm going to do:
I have a way to create anonymous and disposable email addresses. I also have a way to get the email address of each person who forwarded that garbage before it reached me. I'm going to create a list of those addresses and send all the witty responses I can to them. Heck, I might just continue to build the list. . .too bad my initial response suggests learning how to use BCC when sending messages. Unfortunately, I do have other ignorant and hateful people who occasionally send me intolerant garbage, so I'll start collecting those along with the forwarders' addresses. This could become an interesting phenomenon. We can start hitting back.
So, please, bring on the witty responses!

Spreading Disgusting Filth
This is an "article" a "friend" forwarded to me today. I just had to share the love--NOT! The subject of the original email that was forwarded like 10 times before it reached me was "Story in the Tampa Paper..."

The possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then youshould seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
If you agree -- pass this along;
if you don't agree -- delete it!
AMEN
I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please
Have A Wonderful Day...........

This is offensive.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised that someone as nice and smart as you would spread something that reaks of hatred. How would you like it if I were to send you some rant about how, throughout history, the world has clearly been under the rule of men and so, all women should quietly take their place in a man's home and stick to the cooking, the cleaning and the child rearing.
What has happened? How can you swallow whole such intolerance and blatant display of ignorance? How can anyone who so readily spreads hate, TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS THEY CAN, call themself a christian!? You, and the person who wrote this, and all the people who passed this on should be ashamed--both as Americans AND as "christians." I wonder if Christ ever would have said, "We speak Aramaic here. If you don't like it, get the hell out of Jerusalem." I think not. The most dedicated christians I have heard of actually learn the languages of other lands, visit them and spread the word of Christ. Ask yourself where, in this message you have sent, is there any sign of Christs love? Of Christ's compassion? Of his wisdom?
You don't even seem to have considered that MY WIFE'S parents and grandparents all speak spanish--all day and every day. These are people I love dearly. The so called "story" you sent suggests that these people are not welcome here in YOUR country. Shame on you!
If you ever send me anything that challenges my patriotism or the patriotism of anyone I love again, I will be forced to cut you off from ever being able to email me again. In addition, learn how to use the CC and BCC fields of the messages you send--I don't want all the hatemongers you send this message to to have access to my email address.
I love you [name]. I always will. But I can't just sit here silent while you spread horse shit all over the internet. Please don't be silent, let's talk about this. That's the other thing that surprises me. We never got together while you were in DC last, you never explained, and then you start sending impersonal, religious and political regurgitations via email without so much as a "hello, how are you?"

A couple of things here:
- Please chime in if you can come up with intelligent things I can send back to my "friend." I'm not a very good debater.
- At the moment, I do not want to reveal the name of the person who sent this to me but I am considering publishing it--or even better, publishing the email address of every person that I am able to determine forwarded this. Again, chime in!

Brad Sucks: a one man band with no fans
Brad Sucks is a cool musician with a cool sound. His site is also a cool blog/discussion board with stuff on web design, independent music and music editing/recording software.

I heard about PressThink yesterday on WNYC's On The Media. He's got a great take on issues with the press today and makes a cool distinction between the media and the press.
